Sales Growth in 2025? Yes, Even Now!
Let’s be honest—2025 hasn’t exactly rolled out the red carpet for most sales teams. More sales teams missed their first-quarter sales and profit goals than met them. Between market uncertainty, tighter budgets, and longer buying cycles, it’s easy to feel like growth is off the table.
But here’s the truth: sales growth is absolutely possible in 2025—even now.
The top performers aren’t waiting for the “right” time. Unfocused, uncoached, and untrained sales teams are reducing their sales motions due to uncertain times. Some organizations have reduced their sales headcount, marketing, and lead generation efforts while planning to weather the storm. While other teams are writing sales and profit growth plans to not only weather the storms but also come out stronger. They’re creating momentum in the middle of the mess. Here’s how you can do the same.
Sell to Today’s Pain, Not Yesterday’s Plan
What your buyers cared about in 2023 or 2024 may no longer matter. Priorities have shifted. Risk tolerance has changed.
Winning salespeople in 2025 are re-aligning their conversations to uncover current pain points:
- “How is your Business Performing this month? ”
- “Where are you losing time?”
- “What’s costing you money right now?”
- “ What did you expect that is not happening?”
- “What needs to be fixed before Q3?”
- “ What are your customers saying?”
- “ What are your current constraints?”
- ” How can we help you?”
- ” How can we help your team?”
If you’re still selling yesterday’s value, you’ll miss today’s opportunity.
Your Pipeline Doesn’t Need to Be Bigger—Just Better
In a slower market, chasing unqualified leads is a recipe for burnout. Top reps are tightening their focus and qualifying ruthlessly. The question isn’t “Can we help them?”—it’s “Will they buy, and when?”
We have several teams focused on getting close to our current customers and implementing organic growth strategies, as well as closing sales in their sales pipelines. We review our transaction data from the last 30 days and redefine our ideal customers, products, and service offerings. We must continuously prospect, but in uncertain times, we must focus on current and potential new customers that match our updated ideal customer profiles.
Quality > quantity every time.
Reactivation Is a Revenue Goldmine
Forget cold leads for a minute. Review your past customers and warm opportunities from the last 6 to 18 months. Buyers who didn’t move then might be ready now, with a better offer, better timing, or a new problem to solve. Let’s face it, just as your business is facing new challenges and constraints, your customers are experiencing the same. Revisit quotes and conversations you had over the past 6-18 months, as the customers’ needs to solve their challenges likely grew more urgent.
Your best sales this year might come from people who already know you.
Follow-Up Is the New Superpower
In 2025, the deal doesn’t go to the first person to reach out—it goes to the one who stays in the game. The economy might be slow, but decision-making is slower. That doesn’t mean “no”—it means “not yet.” We train teams in our formal follow up cadence. If your team does not have formal sales follow up process, we recommend you implement one now.
Stay visible. Add value. Keep showing up.
Don’t Wait for Confidence—Create It
If your prospect is hesitating, give them a reason to believe:
Share real-world results from others in their space
Offer a pilot or phased start
Chunk our offering into bite sized chunks
Reduce risk with guarantees or flexible terms
The more confidence you create, the faster you close.
Mindset Still Matters Most
Markets go up and down—but mindset is everything. The reps growing in 2025 aren’t the ones with the best territories. They’re the ones who show up with energy, stay coachable, and adapt fast. We have several new clients assessing their sales teams. We are looking for sales skills gaps so we can prescribe training, but we also want to understand if your salespeople are motivated, do they have a positive outlook in the face of storms and are they coachable.
Grit, curiosity, and consistency are your unfair advantages.
Yes, You Can Grow—Even Now
There will always be people who pause when the market slows. Last week a billion-dollar manufacturing organization put travel expenses for customer visits on hold. Another large energy company cut 300 employees. One of the marketing firms we work with shared several clients are reducing their marketing expenses while they plan to weather the storm.
But winners don’t wait—they pivot. They adjust their strategy, sharpen their skills, and go after the opportunity’s others overlook. I shared content from a Mckinsey article titled Grow or Go recently. They also released a strong article about how to see around corners in times of uncertainty I highly recommend.
Mindset matters now more than ever. If your team believes their customers do not want to meet with them and will reduce orders…they will.
If your sales team believes now is not the time to meet with customers and understand their new challenges, we can solve…they won’t have conversations that could have been new revenue and profitable growth.
Keep in mind, thoughts become beliefs and beliefs become actions, sales motions if you will.
Are your salespeople having strong discovery questions with customers and projects they quoted months ago?
Sales growth in 2025 isn’t a myth. It’s a mindset.
